Calisthenics is essentially bodyweight training. The name comes from Greek kallos - meaning good, and sthenos - strength. This form of training is as old as humankind and represents probably the most accessible way to develop strength. Various bodyweight pushing, pulling, leg exercises have been a staple of military training across different cultures. In 2017 calisthenics was voted the hottest fitness trend. You might have been struggling with press-ups before and pull-ups felt completely out of reach. I can not promise to get it all delivered in four 90 minute sessions, but I am very convinced that after the breakdown of bodyweight training, learning full body tension and gaining a better understanding of the movements - you will build a solid foundation for future progress. I’ll teach you the basics of bodyweight training and help you step by step unlock more and more advanced calisthenics elements.
In 2017 I competed in the UK and Ireland Weighted Calisthenics Cup - and finished in top 3. I competed in the heavyweight class, weighing in 95 kgs at the time. My strong belief - your own weight should not be an excuse but an advantage. Beyond any doubt ideally you need to be fairly lean - and bodyweight training assisted by kettlebell - can be very helpful in getting leaner and as a result better in bodyweight exercises.
"Alex is a great trainer who loves sharing his passion for calisthenics. Training with him at the Commando Temple will no doubt help anyone get stronger and more fit."
